THE MUNICIPAL DIRECTORATE OPENING ADDRESS(SUMMARY)
“The K.E.E.A Municipal Education Directorate’s three-day residential training event for math and science teachers kicked off with an inspiring opening address by the Municipal Director of Education, Mercy Akua Lissar (Ms.). Her speech set the tone for the event, encouraging and challenging the teachers to embrace diverse and proven teaching approaches in their classrooms.
Ms. Lissar emphasized the importance of using varied pedagogical methods to bring out students’ understanding of particular concepts, especially in math and science. By incorporating different teaching techniques, such as interactive activities, real-world applications, and collaborative learning, educators can cater to the diverse learning styles of their students and foster a deeper comprehension of the subjects.
The Director also highlighted the significance of adapting to new teaching methods that align with the changing educational landscape and the needs of the students. She reminded the teachers that their role extends beyond imparting knowledge; they are also mentors and role models for the young minds in their care.
In addition to promoting innovative teaching methods, Ms. Lissar charged the teachers with the responsibility of striving for excellence in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results in the municipality. By providing students with the support and guidance they need to excel, the teachers can contribute to the overall improvement of educational outcomes in the region.
Ms. Lissar’s words resonated with the participating teachers, motivating them to take on the challenge of enhancing their instructional practices and dedicating themselves to their students’ success. The training event, supported by KOICA, served as a valuable opportunity for educators to refine their teaching approaches and share best practices with their peers.
As the workshop progresses, it is expected that the teachers will gain new insights and skills to bring back to their classrooms, ultimately leading to an uplift in the BECE results and a brighter future for the students in the K.E.E.A municipality. Let us continue to support and encourage our educators as they work towards empowering the next generation of leaders and innovators!
Finally, her participation highlighted the importance of the initiative and the need for continuous efforts to create equitable learning environments for girls.”
The training encompassed interactive workshops, discussions, and hands-on activities designed to foster an inclusive and supportive atmosphere in classrooms. Participants learned about strategies to address gender biases, encourage girls’ participation, and create an engaging curriculum that resonates with female students.
This initiative reflects a commitment to addressing gender disparities in education and promoting excellence in math and science education. By equipping teachers with the skills to inspire and support girls, we can pave the way for a more inclusive future where young women excel in STEM fields and contribute to advancements in technology and innovation.
